  • When you buy a Silencer or SBR from a Gun Store, the ATF wants you to give them some information about the Gun Store's Federal Firearms License (FFL). The Gun Store will give you this information, but you should verify that everything is correct. The best way to check the info is to ask the Gun Store for a copy of their Federal Firearms License (FFL), which looks like this:


    To make things easier, the following questions are numbered to correspond to the information in the example above.

    1. Sometimes the License Name on the Dealer's Federal Firearms License is not the same as the name the Gun Store uses for the public.

    3. The SOT License Number is always the same as the Gun Store's Employer Identification Number (aka Tax Payer ID Number).
    4. The SOT Number isn't listed on the Gun Store's Federal Firearms License, because the SOT is a separate License
    5. The SOT Number is exactly 9 digits long and contains only numbers (no letters)

  • What Class of SOT does the Gun Store have?

    Notes:
    1. There are 3 different classes of SOT. The Class Number indicates the type of Title II Firearms transactions the Gun Store is legally allowed to do.
          A Class 1 SOT can import NFA firearms
          A Class 2 SOT can Manufacturer NFA firearms
          A Class 3 SOT can Sell NFA firearms
    2. Most likely your Gun Store has a Class 3 SOT.   But, make sure that's the case, as every once in a while you will come across a someone with a Class 1 or 2 SOT.

  • Gun Trust Information


  • The following questions can be a bit tricky for a couple of reasons. First, you are using your Gun Trust to buy a Silencer or SBR from a different Gun Trust. Second, you need information from the Seller's original Form 4, so that you can enter it onto your Form 4. Both of these things make it very easy to get the information switched around, so Take your time and read each question carefully.

    Here is an example scenario that may be helpful when answering the questions in this section:

    Example:

    Luke wants to buy an SBR from his buddy Han. Han told Luke that he originally purchased the SBR using a Gun Trust he got from the Trust Shop. Because he is using the Trust Shop Automated Form 4 System, Luke knows that he needs to get copies of Han's Form 4 Tax Stamp and Form 23 (Responsible Person Questionnaire). Luke asks Han for both documents.
